The glamorous side of creativity is the intuitive and spontaneous side of the practice.
The messy splashes of colors on a palette, the desire to write when inspiration strikes so that your hands happily cramp at the end of the writing spree, or even destroying something you’ve handmade because it doesn’t feel right and it’s ok to start over to make something current you wants.
Since I have a sort of naïve view of creativity as being glamorously free-flowing when I know this is almost always not the case, writing/listing things out cures me of a lot of days when I feel stuck.
The days that feel extra long and I’m sitting there with beaming energy that I don’t know what to do with. Those days of staring off into space until I force myself to act on my energy so that I release it instead of trapping that part of me that just wants to play.
To cut off some of that stuck-ness, I’m depending on throwing all my ideas onto paper because structure is sexy and makes more space for creativity’s whims to roam free.
Writing things down is truly one of the biggest and easiest cheat codes I have to make things come to life for me. Y’all already know I’m a fan of tricking my brain into automatically doing things ;).
With that, here’s a list I made that’s very much catered to what I easily neglect to do but are actions I can depend on to ground me (and I want to know what would be on your list in the comments below!)—
