My Spotify playlists have been an unorganized mess for years. The genre of music I listen to changes every few months.
The spring/summer of 2023 I was all about Afro-beats, the fall I was mostly listening to Little Dragon and London Grammar, and during the winter I’ve been deep into Tame Impala’s music.
In spite of struggling to make sense of my Spotify playlists, I’ve compiled one where most of the songs are ones I throw on when I pole dance to slow down a little bit or to get lost in movement. Think Lo-fi-, soul-, psychedelic-esque and some other surprises mixed in.
I also had some friends contribute to it with the following prompt:
What songs make you slow down, make you feel ethereal, want to shapeshift, and/or make it hard for you to stop from wiggling?
I hope these songs will make you want to wiggle, slow down, and just exist~ in whatever space you’re currently in. Enjoy and thanks for being a Creating Spirals subscriber!
UPCOMING OFFERINGS
I’m almost done with the certification process to become a Postpartum Doula (eep!). I’m hoping to officially launch this little business in June 2024. It’s a bit scary to share this because if I’m honest, I’m not entirely sure if I’ll go through with it. I have a full time job, have hobbies I’ve become more dedicated to, am physically active, have a social life, and need a lot of rest to do all those things. But I’m treating this as an experiment to see what I learn about myself and to use my passions in new ways.
More details to come including a website to learn more about my specific services and how to book me for postpartum needs. Feel free to email me if you know someone who you think would need postpartum care (specifically emotional care and resources for the birthing person) later in the year.
SENSORY SAFETY
The song(s)/artist I’ve replayed the past week to calm me down
I can always count on Lo-fi to bring me some peace and give my brain a break while still feeling stimulated
The media I watched the past week to calm me down
I’m pretty digitally burnt out from mindlessly scrolling through my YouTube explore page of videos I didn’t care to watch and rewatching Friends for the millionth time. Watching media the past week was a bit debilitating for me instead of calming
The activity I did the past week to calm me down
Cleaning my bathtub while I take a shower has made cleaning (the bathroom specifically) more enjoyable for me. Listening to a comedy podcast and enjoying the warm water while taking care of my space broke up the overwhelmed feeling I’ve had over procrastinating on house chores
